Architecture of the Space Machine received an Honorable Mention in the 1992 NARA/TOTO World Architecture Triennale Competition. The theme of the competition was the "Symbiosis of History and the Future". The Triennale jury consisted of Toyo Ito, Kisho Kurokawa, and Kenneth Frampton.

The design applies the paradox of progression to illuminate the symbiotic relationship between history and the future, which is also the beginning of Liquid Architecture.
